Walmart offers Huge $74 Discount on the iPhone 4S–Turns out it was a Pricing Error
Usually, the prices of Apple products such as the iPhone are pretty standardized across retailers. That’s why it doesn’t often make much difference if you buy straight from the Apple Store or hit up a Target, Best Buy, Radio Shack, etc… But Friday it appeared as though Walmart was tipping that model on its head when their posted prices briefly showed a huge discount on the iPhone 4S. But before you head out the door, be advised that–sadly–the big-box retailer has already issued a statement saying that it was all just a pricing error, and “normal prices are in effect.”
I guess this shouldn’t be a surprise, seeing as the sale came to light with no fanfare whatsoever. There wasn’t even any mention of it on Walmart’s website. Even so, customer reports started leaking out, saying that the 16 GB iPhone 4S with an AT&T contract could be purchased for just $114. That would have been a savings of $74… The “pricing error” even extended to the previous generation, with the 8 GB iPhone 4 marked at a measly $34.
The Walmart locations that were affected included states such as Oklahoma and Texas, where unknowing customers probably read early reports and rushed out to get in on the deal…. Sorry guys, but the miraculous $114 iPhone still evades you. Maybe next time.
