TSA Baggage Inspector Arrested for Stealing iPads
It’s no secret that the iPad is a hot ticket items these days, and some people will do everything they can to get their hands on one. Such things as waiting in line for hours on end, selling other items to be able to afford one, and more. But one TSA agent from Dallas/Ft. Worth International Airport went above and beyond the call of duty in getting his hands on a few iPads, in some sense of the phrase.
He stole them from the luggage of unsuspecting travelers. That’s right, Clayton Dovel, the man arrested for the crime, has stolen 8 iPads over 8 months, all while travelers were trusting him to do his job. He was apparently found out when someone utilized their Find My iPhone app, which uses the device’s built in GPS to locate where it is. It’s obvious that Mr. Dovel didn’t know much about the devices, otherwise he would have disabled this feature.
The TSA, for its part, has issued the following statement in regards to the thefts:
“The unacceptable behavior of this individual in no way reflects the dedication of our nearly 50,000 transportation security officers who work tirelessly to keep our skies safe.”
Believe it or not, Dovel didn’t sell the iPads. Nope, he just kept them at his place and played around on them himself. It doesn’t make sense as to why he would do that, considering he would have made a good amount of money had he sold them. Maybe he was auditioning for a spot on Hoarders?
I guess the lesson we can take from this is that if you’re ever going to fly again in the near future, make sure you pay proper attention to your iPad. You might want to take it on board the plane as a carry-on luggage, but pay attention to anyone who comes close to it, even the TSA inspectors.
