The first iPhone 5 Geekbench results are in, and they are awesome
We haven’t identified the fortunate few who received test units of the iPhone 5, but luckily it looks like someone put it through the Geekbench tests, and now we get to enjoy the results!
If the stats we’re seeing here really are the iPhone 5 (and not a fake), then boy are we in for a treat this Friday when the new handset arrives… If you’re familiar with Geekbench results, then the score of 1601 pretty much says it all. But to put that in perspective, the iPhone 4S scored 631, and we all know that the speed it displays is nothing to sneeze at.
The iPhone 5 further distances itself from the rest of the iOS pack when you consider that no other Apple mobile device has ever surpassed a score of 800… So Apple fans will definitely be impressed, but what about the rest of the mobile industry? Well, the iPhone 5 scores as high or above the likes of high-end Android devices, while it is still outperformed by the Galaxy S III running Jelly Bean.
So the true speed increases attributed to the new A6 processor have now been quantified, and they are respectable, to say the least… Other interesting takeaways from the iPhone 5 Geekbench test include confirmation that it runs on an Apple-designed ARMv7 processor (not the ARM Cortex A15 we originally thought), and does indeed pack 1GB of RAM.
Let’s all hope and pray that these Geekbench results are legitimate, as an iPhone 5 that outpaces even the new iPad to this degree will really be something to behold.
