The Daily Launches New Weekend Edition—bold PR move or real sign of life?
Either nobody told the staff of The Daily
that their paper was losing $30 million a year, or these writers are determined not to go out without a fight… Instead of folding under the disappointment of low subscription numbers and heralded doom, The Daily lashed back at the bad press it got this week by announcing a new weekend edition that goes into effect today!
For subscribers to The Daily (like myself) this is good news. After all, it’s the weekends when you might really have time to go deep into an issue. The Saturday/Sunday issues will pack 40 pages of content, including articles related to movies, fashion, food, travel, and a bonus cars section that has never been included before. There will also be interviews and breaking news—so, really, we’re talking about an issue just like all the other ones that arrive on weekdays.
The email announcement sent out on Friday promises that, “You’re going to love weekends with The Daily.” You can bet that the people behind the iPad-exlusive magazine are banking on that statement. Cause if you don’t, we’ve already talked about what the future will look like for Rupert Murdoch and his big tablet experiment.
Can The Daily be saved, or will these weekend editions just be more content that you don’t read?
