Shooting for Ashton Kutcher’s “Jobs: Get Inspired” Starts next Month!

Last year brought us what will probably be the end-all, be-all when it comes to books about Steve Jobs. Most agree that Walter Isaacson did a deft job of penning the ups and downs of the icon’s life… But the verdict is still out when it comes to movies. Sure, Pirates of Silicon Valley is plenty entertaining, but I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that there’s room for a final statement. Will Jobs: Get Inspired, staring Ashton Kutcher, be that flick?

The independent film is set to start shooting next month, and producer Mark Hulme says it will be released before the end of 2012. The quick turnaround time is mostly likely by design, seeing as Sony will also be weighing in on the life of Steve Jobs with a biopic possibly written by the great Aaron Sorkin of The Social Network (details TBA).

Much has been said about the questionable choice of Ashton Kutcher for the lead in Jobs: Get Inspired (which is a working title, by the way). On that subject, Hulme has this to say:

“When Ashton read the script he was immediately attracted to the project. He is a Steve Jobs and Apple fan, and is technologically savvy, as well, so he recognized the historical importance of Steve Jobs and the potential of the project. He is very excited to have the role.”

… Apparently Hulme and others never questioned whether or not Kutcher has the acting chops needed to make the movie work. We’re hoping to be surprised in the regard, though others aren’t so optimistic.

As mentioned above, the film will be out in 2012, and its focus will be on the life of Jobs from 1971 to 2000.
