Rovio to follow up Angry Birds with Amazing Alex- Rebranded from Casey in Casey’s Contraption

We were almost right in guessing that Casey’s Contraptions would be the next big thing from Rovio. Turns out the Angry Birds developer did, in fact, acquire the Casey’s Contraptions IP from Noel Llopis and Snappy Touch, but they won’t be releasing the physics puzzler before they “enhance” it and rebrand it with the title Amazing Alex.

The fact that Rovio’s Angry Birds follow-up won’t be entirely original should tell us something about the potential of Casey’s Contraptions. Either the people who made Angry Birds are experiencing some serious developer’s block, or they see the same sort of accessible and addictive gameplay in Casey’s Contraptions and want to work to bring it into its full potential. VP of franchise development for Rovio, Ville Heijari, said as much in a recent interview:

“… This is a game that we all fell in love with from the first play… The gameplay is a perfect fit in our arsenal with its approachable, fun and highly addictive take on the physics puzzler genre.”

Heijari goes on to say that Rovio with release the title as Amazing Alex sometime this summer. They are currently working to enhance the game and ready it for the incredibly large audience that will surely be ready to download as soon as something new from Rovio hits the App Store.

What do you think? Does the fact that Casey’s Contraption has been around for awhile and never really caught on mean this is a lost cause? Or will Rovio work a miracle and then release a dozen mega-successful Amazing Alex spinoffs within the next few years?
