One year ago today: Apple remembers Steve Jobs with home page video
Been to Apple.com today? Yesterday the site was taken offline with the familiar “We’ll be back” message. And as usual, everyone started taking guesses at what new product was getting posted to the site. But then it hit us that today is October 5th, and it’s been exactly one year since the passing of Steve Jobs. It would have been unlike Apple to let that date go by unrecognized, and of course they didn’t—the video that currently shows up at Apple.com is full of black and white images and memorable quotes that ensure the memory of Steve Jobs is living on within the company.
“It’s in Apple’s DNA that technology alone is not enough… It’s technology married with liberal arts, married with the humanities, that yields us the result that make our hearts sing.”
Do those words hold true about the company one year later? It’s certainly been anything but a quiet year for Apple, and now that it’s October 5th we’re left to wonder how Steve Jobs would have viewed some of the year’s biggest events. To recap, here’s some of what went on:
- The New iPad
- MacBook Pro with Retina Display
- iPhone 5
- Lawsuit victory over Samsung
- Improving AAPL stock price
… If Time Cook’s public letter is any indication, the company will continue on the course set for it by every bit of effort Steve Jobs exerted, and we couldn’t be happier to hear of that intention:
“One of the greatest gifts Steve gave to the world is Apple. No Company has ever inspired such creativity or set such high standards for itself. Our values originated from Steve and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple. We share the great privilege and responsibility of carrying his legacy into the future.”
