No more Crashing apps. Apple Says App Store Problem is Solved

If you’ve been paying attention to Apple news the last few days, you’re probably wondering—what’s up with the App Store? First we hear about a glitch on Apple’s end that apparently caused many big-time apps to crash after users installed updates. And then, what’s this, malware available for download in the App Store? Sounds impossible, but it happened… Fortunately, the malware has been removed, and now Apple has issued a statement that says the crashing apps glitch has been smoothed over:

“We had a temporary issue that began yesterday with a server that generated DRM code for some apps being downloaded. The issue has been rectified and we don’t expect it to occur again.”

Short and sweet. They’re probably hoping that ends the discussion about compromised security, but you know how this works—the media will scrutinize what led to the breach and then project a future where the problem multiplies and the fortress of the App Store comes tumbling down.

But in reality, the book is probably closed on crashing app updates for now. Products that were reportedly affected by the issue included apps like Angry Birds Space HD Free, Instapaper, and GoodReader for iPad. In case you’re one of the users who experienced crashes after an update, the recommendation is that you delete said apps from your device and then re-download (HUGE inconvenience, we know).

Now that we’ve touched on App Store problems twice in one week, let’s hope this isn’t the beginning of a trend.
