MMORPG Roundup: Celtic Heroes, Order and Chaos Online, and Heroes of Order and Chaos
Hey, folks! It’s time once again for our occasional roundup of short news items related to pocket-sized MMORPGs. This week we’ve got Halloween news from One Thumb Mobile, a new video for Heroes of Order and Chaos, and news about the Android side of OnC.
Celtic Heroes Celebrates Halloween
This weekend, Celtic Heroes, the history-themed MMORPG from One Thumb Mobile, is gearing up for Halloween. Called the Samhain 2012 Event — named after Samhain (“Sow-ain”), the Celtic precursor to Halloween — OTM is promising all sorts of nifty seasonal content. The content so far announced includes:
- New transformation charms that reskin PC models into spooky avatars
- New Samhain bosses to battle
- New Samhain quests
- New armor sets, loot, and fashion items themed around Samhain
OTM says that’s not all the content they have planned, however. And to make sure everyone gets a chance to experience the fun, Samhain is not confined to Halloween week. Instead, the event will continue through until the end of autumn.
A New Look At Heroes of Order and Chaos
When Gameloft announced its DOTA-style MMO, Heroes of Order and Chaos, a few months back, they said it was going to release in October. Well October is nearly gone, and we have not yet seen this highly anticipated game; but it’s possible the wait is almost over.
This week, Gameloft released a new video trailer for the game and promoted it on their various social networks, stirring up anticipation for the title. Here’s the video:
If this trailer is indicative of Heroes’ approval by Apple and pending release, we could see it this Thursday, November 1st. Of course, we’ll be talking a whole lot more about the game when it hits.
Order and Chaos for Android Gets Update
While we here at Massively Portable play Order and Chaos Online on iOS, we also like to keep track of how the game is faring on that other major mobile platform And since its release for Android devices in July of last year, the answer has been: not very well. A small playerbase, buggy content, and high levels of hacking have all plagued the Android side of Gameloft’s MMORPG.
Gameloft also tends to be super-slow when it comes to releasing updates for Android. Case in point: October 26th, 2012, the day that Android finally got the “One Year Anniversary Update” for OnC. To be fair, Gameloft was also late with the Anniversary update for the iOS version … by about a month. This is typical of the way Gameloft has been handling Android’s version of Order and Chaos; it seems development of the Android port does not even begin until the iOS version launches.
Given that the next major update for Android will be the PvP Arena Update, a content-heavy release that introduces a whole new mode of play, I suspect Android will not be seeing another update until early next year. In the meantime, Massively Portable would love to hear from any Android players regarding how well the Anniversary content has gone.
