iPhone 5 Fares Poorly in Consumer Reports February 2013 Issue
Nothing is quite as love/hate as the relationship between Consumer Reports and the iPhone. It seems the publication is constantly changing its tone on Apple’s handsets—whether they’re fueling the fire of Antennagate or lauding the iPhone 5 as “another winning smart phone from Apple.”
It looks like an upcoming issue (February 2013) will see Consumer Reports leaning toward the negative, as the iPhone 5 doesn’t show up anywhere near the top of the lists for high-end cellular devices.
In their defense, it doesn’t seem as though the upcoming piece on smart phones has much to do with opinion; instead, Consumer Reports is apparently portraying their findings based on customer satisfaction and carrier (AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon). The iPhone 5 makes the list only twice, and both times it shows up in third position (AT&T and Sprint). The devices that took first place included the LG Optimus G, Samsung Galaxy S III, and Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD.
Without any info on the metrics that contributed to these lists, it’s impossible to know in what ways the iPhone has slipped…. While sales for Apple handsets seem characteristically stellar as of late, there are at least some sources—like Consumer Reports—who see it being outperformed by the competition at an ever-increasing rate.
