iOS 6.1 Goes Live. Check Here for New Features
The developers got their hands on the final beta over the weekend, and now it’s the public’s turn to download iOS 6.1 and stay on the forefront of Apple’s mobile operating system. It’s what we call a “non-major” update, so don’t go expecting any marquee features, but as usual stepping up to iOS 6.1 is worth it for a few key reasons.
As seen on the “software update” page right in your iOS device’s settings tab:
This update contains improvements and bug fixes.
- LTE support for more carriers (complete list of supported carriers at www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/)
- Purchase movie tickets through Fandango with Siri (USA only)
- iTunes Match subscribers can now download individual songs from iCloud
- New button to reset the Advertising Identifier
Like I said, nothing too earth-shattering… Other features of iOS 6.1 include support for Bluetooth keyboards on Apple TV (it’s about time), as well as new Map APIs that should allow for better integration with apps.
So the above points cover the basics for how iOS 6.1 will affect the majority of its users, but as usual with an iOS update, there are the jailbreakers to be considered… With 6.1 now released, the untethered iOS 6 jailbreak is expected to be hot on its heels. For many, that news should prove a lot more exciting than the incremental updates found in iOS 6.1.
