Bad Piggies, Rovio’s Angry Bird Spin-Off, gets Gameplay Trailer, Release Date September 27th

Last time we heard about Bad Piggies, it seemed like the only clue Rovio would drop was that the new Angry Birds spinoff would be “all about the pigs!” Luckily, we now have a much better idea about what to expect from the coming game. I’d have to say it’s more like Amazing Alex than Angry Birds, but take a look at the trailer below to decide for yourself.

Sure, Bad Piggies features the pigs we’ve all been crushing for years, but this vehicle-based gameplay really has nothing to do with birds and slingshots. Which is fine, but it’s hard to say if the Angry Birds momentum will carryover. From what we can tell, Bad Piggies will have the player piecing together all sorts of vehicles for getting the pigs around. Physics will definitely be at play, and at the end you’ll get scored out of three stars.

Does this sound like the sort of gameplay that will keep you hooked on the Angry Birds franchise? There’s no doubt that some people will buy anything with the Rovio name on it, but we’ve yet to see if their shift to contraption-style games will sustain their style of mega success… In the end, they may be relegated to cranking out more Angry Birds levels, but at least they seem very willing to try something new!
