Apple to hold separate iPhone/iPad Mini events in Sept. and Oct., sources say

It seems safe to say that we’ve gotten bored with the iPhone 5, judging from the number of recent reports centering on this alleged “iPad Mini.” In the latest development, a number of sources have come together in saying that Apple will unveil the new iPhone and the new, smaller iPad at two unique events split between September and October.

This current line of thinking originated from John Gruber of the Daring Fireball, who was bold enough to write in opposition of the idea that Apple would introduce a new handset AND new tablet at the same event. Instead, Gruber sees an iPhone event on September 12, followed by a release a few weeks later. Only then will we see an “iPad Mini” announcement built into a music-themed event and held in October. This gels much better with our notions about how Apple does things, and as Gruber puts it—

“… the more I think about it, the less sense it makes for the iPhone to even share the stage at the announcement with any other product. The iPhone is too big, too cool, and garners too much attention—and it’s Apple’s interest to keep that attention undiluted.”

Amen, the iPhone will definitely be THAT big. I think we can agree on that much. But I’m still not convinced that we haven’t talked ourselves into an unwarranted frenzy about the iPad Mini. Things are swinging in Gruber’s direction since he laid out a schedule which sounds like the way Apple might do things—but stepping further back, does it even “sound like” Apple to make two big announcements one month apart? Let’s remember one thing—neither the iPhone 5 nor the iPad Mini has been solidified by Apple in any official way, maybe we should just be happy if we get one of those items this year?
