Apple Ramping Up Security Measures within iTunes By Requesting Security Questions
There have been a number of unfortunate incidents over the years in which iTunes and Apple device users have had their iTunes accounts hacked, and Apple appears to be taking more stringent precautions to avoid this. Most of the issues resolve around expensive purchases on random apps being made, which has been the result of either not having a strong enough password or they were perhaps a victim of the always annoying phishing scam variety.
Recently, some iOS users and those with Apple IDs in iTunes have found themselves met with a prompt by Apple to make their accounts more secure by choosing three security questions and answers. By some reports, users are confused with the pop up prompting, thinking that this is in fact a phishing scam itself.
Not only are the three question prompts being rolled out, but Apple is also asking users to provide a backup email address in order to secure their accounts and devices. After registering your backup address, Apple sends you an email which contains the following:
“The rescue email address is dedicated your security and allows Apple to get in touch if any account questions come up, such as the need to reset or change your security questions. As promised, Apple will never send you any announcements or marketing messages to this address.”
If you’re met with the security prompt, do not worry; Apple is just taking further security precautions to better protect your accounts and wallets.
