Apple Quietly Launches 128GB iPad for $799/$929
Apple has officially launched what might become known as the “ultimate” iPad. At least, it’ll be the “ultimate” until they introduce yet another new iPad, probably sometime next week (that’s a joke… maybe).
The latest new tablet from Apple didn’t get its own keynote presentation or anything, and that’s because all that changed was the device’s storage capacity—which doubled from the top-line, 64GB model to 128GB on either Wi-Fi only or cellular. The new iPads will sell for $799 and $929, and it appears that Apple’s intention is for them to be used more and more in place of laptops. From Philip Schiller’s statement:
“With twice the storage capacity and an unparalleled selection of over 300,000 native iPad apps, enterprises, educators and artists have even more reasons to use iPad for all their business and personal needs.”
… It’s certainly a far cry from the 16GB model, and there’s no doubt that some will find exactly what they need in all that space for the abundance of Retina apps that are now available. But with a price verging on MacBook territory, the 128GB iPad would definitely shock more than a few if it encroaches on the sales of its 16GB/32GB/64GB counterparts. It’s availability should go a long way towards proving just how ready “enterprises, educators and artists” are to ditch their old standbys in favor of iPad.
