Apple may Bring whole line of iPads to market in 2012. Real iPad 3 in Q3 2012?
Everyone turned out to be dead wrong about an iPhone 5 being released this year, so we know you’re not too hot on speculation right now. But DigiTimes is getting things started as we turn to next year and what it might mean for Apple’s iPad.
According to their source, 2012 could mean many things in the history of the iPad. Going along with Apple’s recent progression with the iPhone, some expect to see the iPad 2 experience a significant drop in price, but that’s only on the assumption that there could be something like an iPad 2S showing up early in the year. Should that pan out, the addition of an iPad 3 to the lineup sometime later in 2012 would have the tablet tracking along nicely with the availability of various models of iPhone (3GS, 4, 4S).
Yep, you heard it right. Digitimes is expecting an upgraded iPad 2 (2S) next spring. The iPad 2S may be thinner than the iPad 2, but offer longer battery life. There is no words yet on retina displays for the next generation iPads. But from what we’re hearing from Apple’s manufacturing partners, the difficulties involved in mass production of iPad sized retina displays may prevent their inclusion in the iPad model to be released next spring.
It’s at this point that it seems appropriate to say, “But what do we know?” The missing iPhone 5 in 2011 should act as a cautionary tale to those pinning their hopes on some radically new iPad in the near future. With Apple, it’s just impossible to say. Other than rumors of suppliers being asked to ready flat panel displays and LED light bars for some supposed prototypes, we’re going on very little here. But the prospect of multiple iPads being available at different price points is attractive, and it seems nearly incomprehensible just what that could mean for Apple’s sales figures.
