Analysts predict Apple to sell 8 million iPhone 5′s this Weekend as Huge Lines form around the World
We knew the iPhone 5 would be big after Apple sold out of preorders in about an hour’s time, but it’s still surprising to see the alarming size of the crowds that formed early Friday morning at retail locations in places like New York and Boston. According to some analysts, the lines are more than 80% longer than those that formed for the iPhone 4S last year.
Based on what we’ve seen so far, Gene Munster of Piper Jaffray has gone so far as predicting that Apple could sell 8 million iPhone 5 handsets over the course of this weekend. That amazing number should be shot down or confirmed around Monday, when Apple typically releases a statement regarding the sales figures of new iPhones.
One of the biggest lines for the iPhone 5 was found at Apple’s Fifth Avenue retail location, where Piper Jaffray estimated there were 775 customers waiting patiently… And just in case you’ve never gotten to experience what it’s like to be amongst hundreds of people waiting to get their hands on the latest gadget from Apple, check out this video of the scene provided by AppleInsider.
So what’s your launch day story? Did you brave the crowds or wait by the door for that FedEx delivery?
