Teen Who Made $130,000 Selling White iPhone 4 Kits Closes Website
It’s hard to imagine that he did it out of his own will, but Fei Lam of Queens, New York has shut down his website which sold white iPhone 4 conversion kits. As you’ve probably heard, he made a respectable $130,000 off the whole deal, but now it’s come to an end for reasons Lam hasn’t disclosed yet.
The whole thing was shrouded in mystery to begin with. How does a 17-year-old get in touch with the right people to host this kind of service? And can it possibly all be legal? WhiteiPhone4now.com satisfied many customers by giving them full conversion kits with the actual manufacturer’s parts. A full package sold for $279, with individual panels also available.
At this point it’s being suspected that Apple played some part in getting the site shut down. Back when we first covered this story, Lam had just received a letter from a private investigator accusing him of selling stolen goods. Whether or not this ultimate closure is related to that threat, the outcome is the same. No more white iPhone 4 until spring 2011, when Apple will finally (and I do mean finally) release the white unit. But putting much faith in their word is not recommended. However it happens, just keep believing that you’ll someday get your white device. It just won’t be from Fei Lam, because as he says it, “We have closed the site, possibly permanently.”
