Twitter App Updated to Support iPad
For the longest time, we only had third party options to use Twitter on our iPhones. Then Twitter absorbed Tweetie and those longing for an official app from the huge, 140-character social networking site got what they wanted.
Despite the expectations of some, this didn’t stop third-party developers from thriving in the App Store, and it appears that the differences among all the clients are varied enough to allow for a thriving market. Now, several months late, the official Twitter app has been updated to support iPad, and initial reviews are saying it’s a noteworthy change from previous versions.
The UI is definitely more complex than what we’ve seen before. This allows for more functionality, but is that what we want from the mobile version of Twitter? It’s interesting that Twitterrific just recently chose to go in the opposite direction, simplifying their app by boiling things down to just the important features . . . But options aren’t a bad thing, especially when they’re free, as in the case of the official Twitter app. Certain options such as account creation will remain the sole property of the official app, but it looks like the reactions to the new iPad version are mixed enough that it’s not going to take over the whole market. With so many options for tweeting, there’s really no end in sight.
