Get Nasa App HD on Your iPad for Free
The first few days I had an iPad, it seemed like the App Store was light on great, informational apps that came free of charge. Throwing that “HD” at the end of an app’s title seemed to jack up the price for whatever reason. I think this is still true to some extent, but thanks to NASA, there’s a new free app out there that definitely looks worth the download.
It’s got the somewhat awkward title of NASA App HD, but nothing else about it sounds clumsy. What it does is collect a bunch of sources for NASA news and put them in one, streamlined package. You’ll get mission information, images, videos and Twitter feeds. Users can even track satellites, stream NASA TV live, and keep track of various countdown clocks.
Besides all the live/updatable feeds, NASA App HD
has a boatload of educational content as well. Learn about the planets, space stations, and everything else NASA has to offer. I don’t know that much about space, but I’m sure the thousands of pictures contained in the app are a good start to getting a handle on NASA, and I for one can’t wait to check it out . . . The app just released yesterday, but early reviewers are quite pleased with what it does. Only a few are complaining of compatibility/crashing and the usual glitches that are unavoidable no matter how great the app is. One user goes so far as to say it’s “easily in the top 3 iPad apps out there.” Any time we get this much content for free it’s a special gift, and luckily this time the gift-giver is an enormous space agency with lots of cool stuff to hand out.
