Obama Launches New iPhone App

The Obama Campaign has launched its newest iPhone application in anticipation of the launch of the 2012 election.
Obama is a clear user of the iPhone himself, as this picture shows, but it is the administration’s hope that this newest iPhone incarnation will him another four years.

There is no denying that each election brings more sophisticated campaigning techniques, and Obama’s election was largely due to a combination of a grass roots movement and the embracing of new technologies. One might go so far as to say that it was these two things that handed him his resounding victory.

The app is free and available now from the App Store.

“This is just the beginning of what we’ll be doing with mobile this year,” said another Obama staffer. “We have ambitious plans that we’re excited to show as this year rolls on.”
The features this staffer was referring to:

• Local event alerts and the opportunity to RSVP directly from the application.
• Both Local and National Election news that can be directly shared via Facebook and Twitter
• A huge collection of Photos and Videos
• “Call Congress” feature that not only gives you your congressperson’s number but issues that he or she will be voting on in the near future.
• The opportunity to donate
• The app reorganizes your contacts into “Battleground States” and will allow you to call presumably to convince them to vote for Obama directly from the application

The Republican party will be playing catch up given the release of this app.
