HD console gaming comes to iPad with OnLive—is this the future?
Most of us have at least heard about OnLive by now. If you haven’t, you’re missing out—especially considering the huge entrance the gaming company is about to make into the iOS scene. This year’s E3 conference saw OnLive reveal their plans for bringing HD console gaming right onto the iPad, and early video of the new service is looking stunning.
The technology making this seemingly-impossible feat a reality is what makes OnLive so unique. Their service has existed on computers for some time now, and what they do is utilize a remote datacenter for all the serious computing, then stream the final product to your Mac or PC—and now, to your iPad. All it takes is an Internet connection.
… As great as all that is, the real kicker about the upcoming iPad version of OnLive is the BlueTooth controller. While there’s not necessarily anything special about this controller (that we know of), it’s going to allow users to skip the touchscreen controls, which might take gaming on the iPad to an entirely new level… If you’re still skeptical that any of this is possible, check out the video below for a quick demonstration of what’s on the horizon. The idea of console gaming on the iPad is even more intriguing when you consider the new possibilities that are opening up for mirroring your iPad’s display on an HDTV. Good things could be on the way, to say the least.
