Adobe’s Wired Magazine iPad Publishing Platform to be Released to the Public
After being available in the iPad app store for about a week, the first issue of Wired looks to be a success. An average rating of four stars and many glowing comments about the slick UI and interactive features indicate that consumers may not find paying $4.99 per digital issue to be out of the question.
Adobe is poised to capitalize on this apparent success in a big way. You like the iPad version of Wired? You think you could do something cool if you had the same tools the publishers used to create it? Well, they’re going to give you that chance by releasing what they call their Digital Publishing Platform. It’s Adobe’s effort to help publishers embrace the digital age by allowing them to offer “content plus experience.”
Oh, and they’re also probably looking to make money off of it, especially since it only works if you’re running InDesign CS5.
The software is build in Apple’s Objective C and will allow a cost-effective way of delivering content to smartphones, tablets, e-readers, etc. Said to become available later this year, Adobe maintains that using software such as this to allow readers to engage with content is the way to thrive in a world where content plus experience is now king. The potential for this software is huge should many publications choose to try and make a mark in the app store or elsewhere.
In other news, is this the first sign of a thaw in the tense relations between Adobe and Apple?
