7 Ways to Deal with iPhone 4 Antenna Problem

How can anyone seriously bad-mouth such an elegantly designed device? Apple products are about the look and status. For the privilege of carrying around such a sophisticated and beautiful device, one should happily be willing to carry a second phone or a roll of quarters for the pay phone, or at least to borrow a friend’s phone if you need to make a call that badly.

Isn’t it enough for you whiners that everyone thinks you’re the coolest person they know? Isn’t the blissful happiness that comes from owning the newest, hottest, and hard to find Apple product enough – you want to be able to make phone calls too?

Joking aside, this new phone does seem to have a serious design flaw, if you happen to be left handed. This “death grip” is taking quite a bit of the shine out of this newest release.

THERE ARE SOLUTIONS

1.  Return your iPhone. You have 30 days to do so and you should not hesitate if this is a deal-breaker for you. Unfortunately, many of the iPhone’s distributors, e.g. Radio Shack, Best Buy, and AT&T will charge you a restocking fee of up to 15%.

2.  Sell your new phone on Ebay. iPhone continue to receive crazy bids based on supply problems and you may be able to not only eliminate your reception problems but might even make a few hundred dollars.

3.  Buy a case. Given the cost of the phone as well as videos showing that this phone’s display is not terribly durable and is prone to a screen shatter, buy a protective case that will keep your left hand from directly contacting the phone’s antenna and should increase your reception.  But then, why wouldn’t Apple just start giving their official Bumper iPhone 4 cases for those who complain.  They cost only a fraction of their $29 price tag.

4. Scotch Tape. I know it sounds crazy but it seems that a small piece of tape placed on the bottom corners of the stainless case/antenna solves this problem. It’s unfortunate that this aesthetically beautiful device will be marred by the use of this tape. BUT IT IMPROVES RECEPTION.

5.  Wait for a possible firmware update.  It is not impossible that a software update can alleviate this problem.  There are already chatters that Apple my release a software update in an attempt to fix this problem.

6.  Wait for a recall.  As of now, there is no recall.  But who knows, Apple may feel obligated to give you best Apple experience possible later on and offer some kind of a hardware fix.

7. Lastly, and according to Steve Jobs, there is no problem. But if there is, IT IS BECAUSE YOU ARE HOLDING YOUR PHONE INCORRECTLY.
