Square is released for iPhone, Lets Everyone Accept Credit Cards

Square, allows anyone to accept credit and debit cards.

With a the free download and reasonably quick sign up, you can begin to take payments from nearly anyone, anywhere, anytime.

In addition to providing your bank account information, email, etc.  You need to connect your iPhone to iTunes to find your UDID number. Short of that one little step this setup is quite painless.

Once you sign up the company will send you a dongle in the mail that works as a card scanner. Because of the shipping of this dongle one can assume that for right now this is limited to US customers.

The app is free but, of course, you will be charged a processing fee. Presently, once you receive the dongle which plugs into your audio jack, you will be charged 2.75% of the transaction plus a 15 cent fee. This may sound like quite a bit, however, this is an industry standard rate. Pehaps even lower for less frequent users.

Keyed in entries, those, not put through the dongle demand a 3.5% cut as well as a fifteen cent fee.

Once the swipe is performed you are prompted to have your friend, customer, client sign using the touchscreen. If they are signed up with Square they can also click “email” and your phone will send them a receipt of the transaction assuming you are connected to the internet.

This is a great app for small businesses, large business, everyone really.
