3rd Beta Release of OS 4.0 Shows Promise
Following the third release of Apple´s upcoming OS 4.0 for developers, rumors or the appearance of new features are making their rounds over the internet. While none of these are guaranteed to make it to the final version when released in June, three notable changes are apparent in this newest version.
Closing Applications Running in the Background
Firstly, developers have been claiming that shutting down programs being utilized in the background in Apple´s first offering of multitasking has been sluggish at best. Some have even gone so far as to say it was ridiculously difficult. This appears to have changed. Now, reports have it, you simply need to hold down any of the app buttons and you will be given a screen that prompts you to select which apps to shut down. Prior to this improvement these could only be shut down one at a time.
Orientation Lock
I myself, lay on my side in bed quite often which makes the iPhone awkward. It shifts between landscape and portrait views when I don´t wish it to, and is a source of frustration. Apparently, this is a thing of the past. The newest version allows you to lock the view and set applications to a single view. Nice.
File Sharing
The biggest improvement, and the one that is a welcome sight for most users is file sharing. It appears as though one of mine, and others´biggest complaints is finally being addressed. Using iTunes it is now possible to swap files between your computer and the iPhone, and it is about damn time.
Let´s hope that June sees each of these features making its way into the final release of 4.0
