OS 4.0 to drop Google, Yes and a Resounding No.

We have all been watching the relationship between Google and Apple chilling since about the time that Google released their own version of Android phone, the Nexus One. Since then we have seen tensions rise over Google Voice, and ultimately Apple filed a lawsuit against the largest producers of Android phones, HTC.

It is for this reason that speculation has been running rampant over the internet, as developers receive advance copies of OS 4.0, that Apple is making a move to replace Google in the Safari browser, possibly even replacing Google Search, with Bing or even a search option of their own. There is little doubt that Apple will ultimately look to replace Google with their own product but this still remains, by most estimations, years away.

Apple HAS, indeed, changed the appearance of Safari, no longer is the word “Google” in the upper right hand corner of Safari’s main screen. Google has been replaced by “Search” and users will have the option of using Google or Yahoo search by default .That said, Google should hardly be worried as it seems that there is actually more integration with Safari in the 4.0 release. In the new OS, Google Suggestions will be included for those who continue to use the Google search with Safari.

Additionally, in a move predicted here, but which came as a shock to some industry experts, Apple has approved the use of Opera Mini browser for the iPhone. Opera’s default search option remains the branded Google on their main page and I, for one, have already moved to use this much quicker browser.  Speculation aside Google and Apple still require each other in order to please the users of each.  But we will most certainly see more jabs like this in the years to come.
