Ipad Preorders, Impressive, Slowing
Following an impressive start, Apple´s iPad preorders have slowed. Though if estimates are correct, the Cupertino company should have no complaints from analysts and shareholders.
Over 50K iPads were sold in the first two hours with estimates of over 120K ordered on the first day of availability. It is important to remember that only the WiFi models will be available this April.
While industry analysts’ 1st year numbers vary widely, The Wall Street Journal estimates that 1,000,000 units will ship in the first year. This number clearly will be surpassed if Apple receives over 500K orders before the first unit ships. Estimates suggest that 30K units will be ordered on the weekdays preceding its release with 15K ordered on each of weekend days.
All in all a great beginning for a product that some suggested there would have limited demand for; Apple once again is proving “experts” wrong. In fact Daniel Tello, who has been tracking the sales numbers, suggests that the one million mark could be reached as early as Mid-April. Imagine if Apple wasn´t limiting businesses as well as individuals to two iPads.
